Meet The Indonesian-Torontonians

I was really surprised when knowing that a neighbor of mine, back in bandung, actually got some indonesian relatives who have lived in toronto for over 10 years. Having met only one Indonesian, I was more than thrilled for getting invited to Om Iman (my neighbor's cousin) 's home. So last weekend, I had my first subway experience when I headed to Don Mills station, the point where Om Iman promised to pick me up with his fabulous red volkswagen. It took me 4 transits to get there since Om Iman's home is located in northern Toronto, while I am originally based in the south. Well, It was pretty exhausting, I got the, so to say, subway-lag, but, whatever, at least it got me out of my boring and dead-quiet apartment.

So my visit on recap: I met his wife, who got a dense sundanese accent (despite of her fluent english). The way she talks really reminds me of my mother and my grandma. I met his two children, who were raised in toronto and don't speak bahasa at all. Then, I visited a restaurant that served nasi goreng, ayam goreng, mi goreng, and teh botol (they literally put nasi goreng on their menus, not fried rice). I also visited the best sushi place in toronto (It's best because it is uber cheap). Oh and last thing is, I met Om Iman's big family who happen to have migrated along him years ago.
